I'm running four summer schools in 2009. Each summer school will run for five days, Monday to Friday and will have a maximum of four students. so we will be able to adjust timings and subject matter to some extent to suit the wishes of the class - not something you can easily do when you have a group of 12 or 14!
Other dates may well be added in due course - if you see a subject you like but the dates don't suit you, do get in touch as I may be able to add in additional dates to suit you if I get enough interest. You may also like to have a look at the shorter workshops here.
NB All workshops and summer schools can now be booked through the online shop or through the post using an order form and cheque/credit card details. Please see details at the end of this page
6-10 July - Cyanotypes and Digital Images on Fabric

I have in mind something like 2 days of cyanotyping, 2 days of digital imaging (direct printing, image transfer, digital negatives etc) and a final day of combining various techniques in as many ways as we can come up with.
27-31 July - Freehand Screenprinting

We will start by constructing our own, low cost, printing screens and will then investigate a number of ways of producing printing surfaces. We will cover the lovely technique of breakdown screenprinting and will look at using a Thermofax machine for producing screens from digital images.
31 August - 4 September - Using Adobe Elements in textile work and Digital Images on Fabric FULL - see below for extra course

After several requests I've added this course, which will combine tuition in how to use the Photoshop Elements software to manipulate digital images for use with textile work. We'll look at how to remove backgrounds from digital images, how to re-size images and how to simplify images for embroidery. We will then transfer these images on to fabric in a variety of ways including direct printing, using transfer paper, solvent transfer and medium transfer. Finally we'll create digital negatives for use with cyanotyping and inkodyes as well as digital positives for creating printing screens.
14 - 18 September - Using Adobe Elements in textile work and Digital Images on Fabric

As the course at the beginning of September booked up so quickly, I've repeated it here. This will also combine tuition in how to use the Photoshop Elements software to manipulate digital images for use with textile work.
Each day will run from 10am to 4pm. The course will cost £260 which will include a light lunch, of the sandwiches/quiche and salad/soup and a roll style plus teas/coffees/cold drinks as and when you fancy them. The cost includes all dyes and chemicals plus a kit of materials, transfer film, inks etc which will cover the requirements of the course. More will be available for purchase if required. The cost DOESN'T include accommodation. There are two excellent bed and breakfast places near here (individual accommodation rather than 'stay with the family' - approx £30 a night inc full English breakfast) or there are small hotels if you don't mind travelling a little further, or a full range of accommodation in Hull (approx. 15 miles).
If you aren't familiar with Stone Creek Barn then have a look at this page. One thing I need to mention is that the barn isn't suitable for wheelchair users - it has a narrow entrance door and steep steps up to the first floor.
If you are interested and would like to book, you can do this in two ways.
1. Manually: You can either download, print and complete the booking form and return it to me with a non-refundable deposit of £40 payable by cheque or credit/debit card. Or
2. On-line: You can now book on-line here and pay the deposit by credit/debit card or Paypal balance.
Whichever way you book the balance is due for payment four weeks before the date of the school.
Cancellation: If you cancel your booking within four weeks of the workshop then full payment will still be due unless I can fill the place (which I often can if I have enough time). If I have to cancel a workshop then a full refund will be made.
