This page covers the workshops I organise myself at the Darby and Joan Hall in Cottingham, to the west of Hull. Workshops/courses at Stone Creek Barn are on a separate page and a third page details the workshops/courses I'm teaching for other colleges/organisations.
An exciting new venture for 2008 is a summer school to be held at Stone Creek Barn 25-29 August. For more information, follow this link.

Cottingham workshops| Saturday 23 February | Digital Images on Fabric This workshop will cover various methods for transferring your digital images on to fabric including printing directly onto your fabric with inkjet and laser printers, using transfer film, solvent tranfers and various methods of transferring digital images from transparency film using a variety of mediums. NB Only very basic IT skills are required eg how to open and close files. |
| Saturday 19 April | Monoprinting A lovely, simple technique for printing patterns and textures or painterly images on to fabric. No artistic skill is required! |
| Saturday 24 May | Discharge Discharge involves taking colour out of fabric to make images, patterns and textures. This lets you create fabrics that can be produced in no other way. |
| Saturday 21 June | Freehand Screenprinting For this workshop we will be creating our own screens for printing single and repeating images on fabric in a very free way. |
| Saturday 19 July | Cyanotypes on Fabric This is an introduction to the wonderful techniques of cyanotyping on fabric; a method from 1841 for producing beautiful, detailed white photographic images on a Prussian blue background. We will cover preparing the light sensitive fabric and producing photograms (printing flowers, foliage, lace and many other objects). We will also cover producing digital negatives for use with cyanotyping and finally we’ll look at underdyeing and overdyeing/painting the final image. All in all a blue and white extravaganza! NB NO prior photographic experience is needed and only very basic IT skills eg how to open and close files. |
As usual workshops will run from 10.30am to 4.00pm and will take place at the Darby and Joan Hall in Cottingham, to the west of Hull. I’ve reluctantly had to increase the cost of the workshops to £45 per day because the cost of hiring the hall and the cost of many of the materials has increased over the last year. This still includes tuition and a basic kit of fabrics, dyes etc which will cover the workshop. More will usually be available for purchase if required. Tea and coffee is also provided.
Bookings:If you'd like to book any of the workshops please download the printable booking form and return it to me with a non-refundable deposit of £10 per person per day. The balance will be payable four weeks before the workshop. Please make sure your contact details are clear and correct including a phone number in case I need to get hold of you at the last minute. A short list of equipment to bring (if possible) will be sent out a couple of weeks before the workshop. I am able to accept payment by cheque or by any of the major debit/credit cards (except American Express).
Cancellation: If you cancel your booking within four weeks of the workshop then full payment will still be due unless I can fill the place (which I often can if I have enough time). If I have to cancel a workshop then a full refund will be made.
