Cyanotyping (blueprinting) on Fabric - Easter weekend - four daysCyanotyping (blueprinting) on Fabric - Easter weekend - four days
2-5 April 2010
This is a lovely time of the year for a four day in-depth look at the wonderful techniques of cyanotyping on fabric; a method from 1841 for producing beautiful, detailed white images on a Prussian blue background. We will cover preparing the light sensitive fabric in a variety of ways and producing photograms (printing flowers, foliage, lace and many other objects). We will also cover producing digital negatives for use with cyanotyping and finally we’ll look at toning cyanotypes, as well as underdyeing and overdyeing/painting the final image. All in all a blue and white extravaganza! NB NO prior photographic experience is needed and only very basic IT skills eg how to open and close files.

Maximum students: 4
Price: £220.00

Deposit (+£40.00)
Balance (+£180.00)
Total cost (+£220.00)

Photoshop Elements for Textiles and Digital Images on Fabric - five daysPhotoshop Elements for Textiles and Digital Images on Fabric - five days
24-28 May 2010 (Monday to Friday)
I will be running this popular course at least twice in 2010. It will cover a number of techniques for manipulating digital images that are especially suited to textile work, like how to remove backgrounds from digital images, how to simplify images for embroidery and how to use layers for design work. We will then transfer these images on to fabric in a variety of ways including direct printing, using transfer paper, solvent transfer and medium transfer.

The image shown was prepared from a colour photograph. It has been converted and simplified ready to create a thermofax printing screen.

Maximum students: 4
Price: £270.00

Deposit (+£40.00)
Balance (+£230.00)

Freehand Screenprinting - five daysFreehand Screenprinting - five days
13-17 September 2010 (Mon - Fri)
This will cover a range of techniques for creating and using screens to produce varied images and textures on fabric. We will be making our own printing screens and will then cover several techniques for getting designs on to the screen, breakdown screen printing and printing using thermofax screens. The screens can be used with screenprinting textile inks, thickened dyes, discharge pastes, glues, gutta etc. This is not a fine art style of printing (using registration and layers) but is a very free and easy way of patterning a piece of fabric.
